Profile of Dr Jan Gutteling

Dr Gutteling received his minor and Master’s from University of Utrecht, The Netherlands and his Phd from the University of Twente, The Netherlands. Currently, Jan is CERISE’s Director for Science and Projects and covers the Risk Pillar along with Dr. Boustras. In addition, holds a post as Scientific Collaborator at European University Cyprus, and another as Associate Professor of Crisis and Risk Communication at the University of Twente, Netherlands. His research focuses on the understanding of risk perception and the application of this understanding in crisis and risk communication. Studies are primarily quantitative and empirical, and aim (1) to develop social psychological models of risk perception, or (2) aimed to establish experimentally how and under which circumstances communication and information influence risk perception and risk-related behavior. Research themes are environmental risks and physical safety issues, modern biotechnology and genomics, water safety management (flood risks).
